We're looking for one at work, around £250.  Could be a compact with good video capability, or a dedicated unit my only real requirement is to have something that records to flash memory rather than tape/DVD(tragically they are not going to stretch to a 5D MkII sad )

The JVC camcorders record to micro SDHC cards, but it is in SD not HD format. They also have an HDD as standard. To use the HDD, you need the dedicated disc writer. To use the flash memory, you just select it in the menu and that s that. It accepts cards up to 2Gb for certain and possibly up to 4Gb. The cards are cheap and readily available as they also fit mobile phones. The main difficulty is the small size of the camcorder. If you have big hands it may be difficult to press the red button without moving the machine. I think that they start at ~£190 for a 30Gb HDD model. My wife really likes hers.
